Figure Drawing

Okaaaay so...it's kind of weird. And the photo is really bad and her hair looks really red. Oh well. It's still in progress but it's basically done...it's hard working on it without the model but I tried. I don't really know how I feel about it and I kind of feel like Neil because this was painful and yeah. Does the shading look werid? In terms of contrast anyway? Cause Myles saw it and said it was good and then asked if the model was a Black Ginger. And she wasn't...

Also I've updated the still life with my more complete (but still not complete yet) piece.

  1. Allegra, first of all I do NOT think this looks like a black ginger, don't worry. The shading looks great on the neck and shoulder and arms. I think that shading on the legs could maybe use a little work because they look a little flat but still really good. I think the proportions are spot on and you capture a great body and facial expression. The red hair does draw away a little attention from the rest of the figure though so take that how you may. Great job!

  2. So, I was in the middle of writing "So, first of all, it doesn't look like a black ginger" but then I looked up and read what Alex said and my thunder was stoler. But I still agree with the statement. As far as the piece goes, the sading on her face, torso, and arms looks really good. The light source feels warm and palpable. I do think that her foot seems oddly flat, so maybe do something quick about that? And it's good to feel like Neil sometimes, it gives a new perspective. Overall I think it's almost good to go, just some touch ups here and there. Since you're doing 2-D, maybe address the negative space at the corners of the paper? And hey, for all the AP board knows, maybe this IS a black ginger...

  4. Oh My Goodness Allegra!!! This looks fantastic. I really like your shadows and contrast. It really brings a smooth lifelike quality to the figure. The only thing that I think could use a little more work is the model's right lower leg. It just feels a little flat. But other than that, this is amazing! keep up the good work!

  5. I like it. I think that you really did well in defining the shadows and in addressing the background. What you did to it really works with the color of the paper and the hair color it is subtle but it adds to the piece. The onething that you should work on is the back foot. It doesnt seem to fit. The angle of the foot isnt correct (i think). But everything else is great. I heart it.....if that makes sense.

  6. WHAT IS THIS BEAUTY?! God Allegra, I love this~ The shading and contrast are almost perfect. The only thing that bother me are the left thigh and right arm; they just look a bit out-of-propportion. Other than that, nice job!

  7. this is actually amazing. the wall in the background really brings it together and makes the piece look complete. the shading is very well done and the proportions are all great.

  9. There is something awkward about the front arm arms-elbow a little low or turned outward too far?
Add a little information to the background to finish it off.
